How do you think they will react at their first meeting with the sea?

A child's first meeting with the sea can be a moment of extraordinary intensity.

Amazement and silence – some may stand motionless, looking at the endless expanse of water as at a miracle. For a child used only to narrow lanes or to fields, the sea is an overwhelming infinity.

Explosive joy – others will shriek, will laugh, will run towards the waves, feeling the freedom and the call of play.

Curiosity – many will want to touch the water, to taste it, to gather shells or to dig in the sand, as though they were discovering a treasure.

Gratitude and emotion – for some it can be so intense that it comes out in tears, in silent smiles or in gestures of closeness towards those who took them there.

A mixture of fear and delight – the big waves, the continuous noise, the unknown can make them cling to an adult, but then, slowly, they will venture out with confidence.

For these children, the sea is not just a summer amusement, but an enormous gift, a dream fulfilled. It can stay in their soul as a memory of light, a proof that they too have a share in beauty and in freedom.
